The passage

Forty one days from the Adriatic to the Øresund

The owner bought the boat in Rogoznica on the Croatian coast and wanted her at home in Copenhagen. There is no short way: down the Adriatic, across the Mediterranean, out through Gibraltar, up past Portugal and Biscay, through the Channel and the North Sea and round Skagen into the Øresund. About 3,600 nautical miles.

It took 41 days, starting in July 2017. Not the fastest delivery we have done, but one of the calmest. The weather was kind on the long legs and the crew had time to sail the boat properly instead of fighting the calendar. She still reached Copenhagen a few days ahead of the agreed date, in the same condition she left Croatia, which for a family cruiser after a passage like this is the whole point. The owner was very happy.

Three skipper changes, one plan

On a six week passage we plan crew changes from the start. Our skippers are usually booked for other deliveries, so on a route this long the boat changed hands three times in ports along the way. Each new skipper took over the same passage plan and a handover on board, so for the owner it was one delivery, not four, with a fresh crew on every long leg.

The yacht

The Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 361 is a modern family cruiser: 36 ft 5 in overall, 12 ft 6 in beam, sloop rig, Volvo 2030 28 hp, three cabins and up to nine berths. Spacious inside for its length, with a large heads compartment, and it sails well enough to make long legs comfortable.

How we ran it

What the owner got, step by step.

Crew and plan

A professional delivery skipper and crew matched to the yacht and the route, a passage plan and the weather window agreed with the owner before departure.

The passage

Position updates along the way and decisions made for the safety of the boat first: port stops for fuel, provisions and weather as needed.

Handover

The yacht handed over at the destination with a written report on the condition of the boat and anything worth the owner's attention.
